Nuala Gardner
Nuala Gardner is the mother of Dale and Amy, who have a diagnosis of autism. For thirty years Nuala worked as a nurse, twenty-five as a registered nurse and five as a midwife. Her medical knowledge helped her educate her children and ensure both received condition-specific intervention. In 2007 she wrote the international bestseller A Friend Like Henry, which details her son's struggle and the remarkable help he received from a special golden retriever named Henry. She retired from nursing in September 2011 to write the sequel and progress herwork using specially trained dogs to help autistic children and adults in the UK, with similar programmes already developed in Spain and Australia. She lives in Glasgow.
