Vixy Rae
VIXY RAE, born and raised in Edinburgh, mother of one, Saul Mann Rae; clothing designer, shop owner and stylist. Her Edinburgh Steiner School days nurtured a love for creation and imagination in art and design – which in turn inspired her passion for clothing design and style.
This led Vixy to the city’s Old Town where she sold branded streetwear, and later created her own streetwear brand ‘Oddities’. As her business expanded, so Vixy’s love for craft and local sourcing grew, which meant the opportunity to become a co-owner of Stewart Christie & Co felt like a dream come true.
In 2018, when Vixy joined the Incorporation of Edinburgh Tailors, she became the first female member in its history. Vixy has also championed the creation of an SVQ in bespoke tailoring to address the decline in the skill of tailoring in Scotland and drive new generations to take up the craft.
Having explored Scotland’s boldest fabric in The Secret Life of Tartan , Vixy shares here her love of tweed, mixing her streetstyle background with traditional techniques to give a cutting-edge twist to old ways. Tweed has had its share of ups and downs, but remains steadfast as the countryside’s cloth of choice – hard-working, purposeful and with an understated style of its own.
